A Management and political lesson from the Ramayana

    




    When Bharata met Rama in the Chitrakut mountains to persuade him to return to Ayodhya, Rama was very glad to see him. He asked about the situation in Ayodhya and well being of the people. He also wanted to know how Bharata was managing the state. Some excerpts...

    "Do you respect your elders and servants? Do you give respect to the weapon specialist Sudhanwa? Have you employed intelligent people in your ministry? Defence experts and intelligent bureaucrats will always give you victory. Hope you get up early in the morning and plan about increasing the financial condition of your state. 

    I hope you neither decide alone nor discuss with too many people. You keep your decisions secret. You prefer the project, which needs less effort but more effective for the welfare of the people. The subordinate kings get to know only about the projects you already completed or to be completed shortly. They never get to know about your upcoming projects. 

    I hope you prefer one intelligent person to a thousand foolish. Hope you employed highly intelligent people in higher posts, medium intelligent people in medium posts and less intelligent people in lower posts. You give responsibilities to the bureaucrats who are honest and never takes a bribe.

    Hope you give salaries to the soldiers on time and don't delay a day. If your servants do not get their salary on time, they will be angry with you and create disturbances. 

    Do you walk around the city early in the morning? Can anyone meet you? You should choose the medium path to meet the common people. Too much exposure or least exposure, both are harmful."

These lessons are still relevant in the present times !!

      ইক্ষুমতি বা অক্ষু নদীর ধারে পাশাপাশি দুতিনটি অস্থায়ী গ্রাম। বেশিরভাগ ঘর মাটির, ওপরে পাতার ছাউনি দেওয়া । এছাড়াও লতাপাতা আর কাঠ দিয়ে তৈরী কিছু ঘরও রয়েছে। ঘরগুলি দেখেই বোঝা যায় অস্থায়ী ভাবে থাকার জন্য  তৈরী।  এখানেই একটি গ্রামে থাকে পাঁচ বছরের একটি ছোট্ট ছেলে, নাম তক্ষক। তক্ষকের মা কদ্রু, আর বাবা কশ্যপ মুনি। তক্ষক তার বাবাকে কখনো দেখেনি। তার ঘরে মা আছে আর অনেক ভাইবোন আছে। ঘরের সমস্ত কিছু মা সামলায়। বাবা নাকি জঙ্গলে সাধন ভজন নিয়েই থাকে। তক্ষকের জন্ম এই গ্রামেই, কিন্তু সে শুনেছে তার মা এখানে এসেছে অন্য একটি জায়গা থেকে, আরো অনেকের সাথে। সেখানে কোনো নদী  ছিলোনা। ছিল একটি বিশাল হ্রদ ।  তক্ষক শুনেছে কিছুদিন পরে তারা এখান  থেকেও  আবার চলে যাবে।   "মা আমরা বারবার এইরকম জায়গা পরিবর্তন করি কেন ?"            তক্ষক জিজ্ঞাসা করেছিল।  "আমরা একজায়গায় বেশিদিন থাকতে পারিনা রে, আমাদের পোষা জানোয়ারগুলো খেতে পাবেনা। ওদের চরাবার জমি...
